Abstract Descriptions are given of methods for the preparation of eight bromoderivatives of 3‐hydroxypyridine. 2,4,6‐Tribromo‐3‐hydroxypyridine was obtained as reaction product in the bromination of 3‐hydroxypyridine in aqueous solution. When the bromination was carried out with the bimolecular quantity of bromine in pyridine as a solvent, 2,6‐dibromo‐3‐hydroxypyridine (m.p. 163°) could be isolated. We have not been able to confirm the observations of Fischer and Renouf who report the formation of a dibromo‐3‐hydroxypyridine (decomposition point: 200°) by the action of bromine water on 3‐hydroxypyridine. Finally some reactions of 2,4,6‐tribromo‐3‐hydroxypyridine are described.
