Kolanone, a novel polyisoprenyl benzophenone, has been isolated from the fruit pulp of Garcinia kola HEKKEL. A tentative structure for kolanone has been proposed based on a comparison of its spectral data with that published for other compounds of this class. Kolanone has been shown to exhibit significant antimicrobial activity against a range of organisms.
