Abstract

The adsorption of oxygen on the Cu(100) face has been investigated by surface extended x-ray absorption fine-structure measurements for the low-coverage (\ensuremath{\surd}2 \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} \ensuremath{\surd}2 )R45 structure. The oxygen is found to occupy the fourfold hollow site with a bond length of 1.94(3) A\r{}.
