The initial lattice distortions for manganese dissolved in copper, silver, and gold are found to be 0.383 ± 0.003, −0.003 ± 0.002, and −0.070 ± 0.002 kX per mole respectively. The precautions taken in making the lattice parameter measurements are briefly described. A similarity in the behavior of zinc and manganese as solutes in the noble metals is pointed out.
