Abstract

Omeprazole is a non-competitive antagonist of the enzyme H+K+ATPase, which until now has only been demonstrated in the parietal cell. The inhibition of gastric acid secretion by omeprazole could in theory, therefore, be very selective. The effect of omeprazole on gastric acid and pepsin secretion is reported here.
