Forty‐three cases of generalized pruritus were investigated and followed up. Diseases of the liver, the reticulo‐endothelial system, thyroid and internal malignancy will occasionally be found for the first time in patients presenting with generalized pruritus. In the largest group the cause of the pruritus remained unknown but follow up showed that the pruritus eventually disappeared. In children generalized pruritus is nearly always emotional in origin.
