The isotypic compounds CaRh 2 B 2 and CaIr 2 B 2 were prepared and investigated by X-ray methods. They crystallize orthorhombic in space group Fddd-D 2h 24 with lattice constants CaRh 2 B 2 : a = 1060.6 ± 0.4 pm, b = 924.0 ± 0.4 pm, c = 583.2 ± 0.2 pm. CaIr 2 B 2 : a = 1072.7 ± 0.4 pm, b = 925.7 ± 0.4 pm, c = 587.7 ± 0.2 pm. The structure contains isolated boron-atoms and can be derived from the CeCo 3 B 2 - or CaCu 5 -type of structure, respectively.
