The design and construction of a helium-3 cryostat suitable for specific heat measurements between 0.4 and 4.2°K are described. The helium-3 system has been simplified by the elimination of a backing pump, and requires only 500 cm3 of gas. The cryostat also incorporates a mechanical heat switch.
