In a feeder with varying load conditions the optimum physical location and the rating of the compensating capacitor banks are not fixed in value or in position. Since it is not practical to move the capacitor banks to a new optimum location in the feeder as the load and therefore the compensating level changes, the reduction formulae of the power loss and the energy loss require modifications to determine the best fixed optimum locations under a varying load condition. This has been carried out in the present study. The analysis developed is applied also to the case of a varying end-load. A step by step calculation is made for a practical feeder which has a growing load. The financial implications of the design are fully considered using realistic financial data in the proposed formulae.
