Four new metabolites have been isolated from Aspergillus sydowi and named sydowic acid, sydowinin A, sydowinin B, and sydowinol, respectively. Sydowic acid, C15H20O4, forms colorless needles, mp 151°C, [α]D-6.4°. Sydowinin A, C16H12O6, forms pale yellow needles, mp 218_??_220°C. Sydowinin B, C16H12O7, forms yellow needles, mp 220°C. Sydowinol C46H14O7, forms yellow needles, mp 157_??_159°C, [α]D-51° The structure of sydowic acid was shown to be represented by formula I on the basis of spectroscopic data.
