Abstract

A new applicator, using microtubes, which allows the accurate placement in soil of very small volumes of nematicides or other liquids is described. When used to inject ethylene dibromide (EDB) in rows of wheat during sowing to control cereal cyst-nematode, the initial cost of the applicator and EDB was recovered from the increased yield from 2 ha. The reasons for the efficacy of the treatment and the non-phytotoxicity of EDB are unknown.
