Pohlia atropurpurea (Wahlenb.) Lindb. f and Pseudoleskeella papillosa (Lindb.). Kindb. are reported from the island of Newfoundland for the first time. Thirteen additional species, recently reported from Newfoundland without specimen citation, are here documented for the first time. New records of rare taxa are also provided, and three species are reported for the first time from the nearby islands of St-Pierre-et-Miquelon. The status of Cynodontium strumulosum C. (Belland 1987a, b), Hypnum jutlandicum Holmen & Wamcke (Ando 1987), Hypnum mammillatum (Brid.) Loeske (Ando 1987), Isothecium alopecuroides (Dubois) Isov. (Allen 1982-the record is possibly based on a mislabeled specimen), Orthotrichum rupestre Schleich. ex Schwaegr. (Crum & Anderson 1981), Orthotrichum stramineum Hornsch. ex Brid. (Bras- sard 1984), Pohlia andalusica (H6hn.) Broth. (Shaw 1981), Pseudoleskea stenophylla Ren. & Card. ex
