Cell cultures established from tissues of nine patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and maintained for several months to over a year yielded no clue as to a possible viral cause of the disease. Serum antibody titers to 15 viral agents in 34 patients with ALS did not differ from those of matched controls.
