Genetics and the Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases.

Abstract

This book contains the contributions to a symposium held June 17-19, 1963, in Ann Arbor, Mich. The symposium was jointly sponsored by the US Public Health Service, Division of Chronic Diseases and the University of Michigan Medical School and School of Public Health. The 25 contributed articles were presented in five groups: (1) "Basic Genetic and Epidemiological Principles," (2) "The Evaluation of Genetic Factors in Selected Illustrative Diseases," (3) "Problems in the Experimental Design of Epidemiological Studies," (4) "A Collection of Papers on Rheumatoid Arthritis, Coronary Artery Disease, Congenital Malformations and Cancer," and (5) "Genetic Counselling." It is impossible to give a complete review of the subject matter covered in this book, as it spreads over the entire field of chronic disease epidemiology and of genetics from family tree, twin studies, proband studies, to population based studies.
