It is shown that suspension of drops at the interface of two insoluble liquids represents a satisfactory method of studying the supercooling of water. The temperatures of supercooling thus found depend on the volume of the sample and the rate of cooling. The inter-relation between temperature, volume and time is derived theoretically from simple probability considerations and is shown to be consistent with experiment.
