The enzyme deoxyhemerythrin reacts in a completely different manner with N and NCS⊖ than the methemerythrin model compounds containing the partial structure 1, L = N,N′,N″-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane. The [Fe2(μ2-O)(μ-carboxylato)2] group of the enzyme remains intact, whereas in the model compound the carboxylato bridges and the oxo bridges are replaced.
