Prolonged, intense auditory stimulation caused a marked reduction in glutathione levels in the blood of female rats. The frequency of the response was significant statistically and was related inversely to the recovery rate after auditory stimulation. An increase in adrenal weights and ascorbic acid, as well as a decrease in total adrenal cholesterol, were noted.
