High-spin states in $^{186}\mathrm{Hg}$ with a quadrupole deformation of ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\beta}}}_{2}$=0.34(4) have been established from measured gamma-ray coincidences and lifetimes. These data, which provide the first evidence for a deformation midway between normal and super deformed, can be interpreted in terms of the [651] 1/2 and [770] 1/2 neutron configurations.
