Abstract The static dielectric constant of CCl 4 , CH 3 CCl 3 and their mixtures has been measured in the liquid region between −20 and +20°C. Applying the Onsager‐Kirkwood theory and extrapolating to infinite dilution we found 1.73 ± 0.03 debye for the permanent dipole moment of the CH 3 CCl 3 molecule. A weak tendency for parallel alignment of the dipolar molecules was observed for concentrated mixtures in CH 3 CCl 3 .
