Abstract

Structural alterations of resistance arteries were demonstrated in most hypertensive patients, followed by endothelial dysfunction and cardiac hypertrophy in a smaller number of hypertensives. Small artery structural remodeling may precede most clinically relevant manifestations of target organ damage in mild essential hypertension.
