The Damaged Human Detrusor: Functional and Electron Microscopic Changes in Disease ¹

Abstract

Summary Studies in 30 patients with vesical lesions show that intercellular collagen is present in varying amounts. Pressure flow studies in 4 patients who had undergone vesical overdistension episodes showed full recovery in only 1 patient, with straining micturition in the other 3. In all 4, marked intercellular collagen was found in the bladder biopsies. These changes are similar to those found in the experimental model.
