Experimentally observed induced magnetism on Rh and Ru when alloyed with Co is studied within a tight binding linear muffin-tin orbital (TB-LMTO) method in atomic sphere approximation (ASA). Different possible crystal structures of ${\mathrm{Co}}_{3}$M (M=Rh,Ru) are considered and it is shown that the hexagonal close packed (hcp) structure is the most stable with induced magnetic moments on Rh and Ru. Some other off-stoichiometric structures such as ${\mathrm{Co}}_{71}$${\mathit{M}}_{29}$ and ${\mathrm{Co}}_{67}$${\mathit{M}}_{_{33}}$ are also considered. The band theory explains quite well the observed induced magnetism in different cases. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.
