Pulmonary Mast Cells in Mitral Stenosis

Abstract

Pulmonary mast cell counts in cases of mitral stenosis and chronic left ventricular failure confirm Ehrlich's original observation that there is a proliferation of such cells in brown induration of the lung. This mast cell hyperplasia is associated with the laying down of fibrous tissue after chronic lymphatic obstruction with oedema of alveolar walls.
