16.1: <i>Invited Paper</i> : A Novel Outdoor Readability of Portable TFT‐LCD with AFFS Technology

Abstract

Abstract Recently, we have developed advanced fringe field switching (AFFS) technology with a novel outdoor readability, super high CR and high transmittance that obtained from a new electro‐optical design rule by optimization of LC electrodynamics and precise control of polarization light without transflective resin technology. Our new device in 12.1″ XGA has shown the transmittance over 8%, surface reflectance under 0.2%, hardness over 4H, outdoor visibility (image quality, color representation) better than the transflective LCD, contrast ratio over 800:1 and viewing angle over 180°/180°, respectively.
