Abstract

The paper analyses some suitable braking operations of asynchronous motors supplied by means of electronic power devices. Both regenerative- (or dissipative) and plug-braking operations are considered only at steady state. The most suitable speed ranges are investigated together with their intrinsic limitations, so that upper and lower boundary values are given. The practical flexibility of both braking operations is supported by an approximate investigation on the amounts of copper loss involved.
