On caustics related to several common indices of refraction

Abstract

In the Lagrange manifold approach to the asymptotic solution of a differential equation, the caustic curve is determined from the phase of an oscillatory integral. Here we present the phase functions of such integrals for several types of stratified media of geophysical interest.
