Abstract Simple cubic void superlattices in electron irradiated fluorite are ascribed to radiation damage and defect diffusion in the anion sublattice alone. Interstitial crowdion migration and the calcium/fluorite misfit parameter are determining factors in the mechanism of super lattice formation.
