AbstractAbstractThe inhibiting effect of the cationic surfactant cetyl trimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) on the corrosion of aluminium in hydrochloric acid solutions in the presence and absence of external magnetic fields of up to 0·114 T has been investigated by weight loss measurements. It was found that strong magnetic fields affect the corrosion rate. The efficiency with which CTAC inhibits the corrosion of aluminium was increased in the presence of an external magnetic field. The extent of inhibition increased as the external magnetic field was increased. The magneto corrosion inhibition was explained in terms of the field assisted development of a passive layer. Keywords: ALUMINIUMINHIBITORSURFACTANTMAGNETIC FIELDACIDIC CORROSION
