The anionic ligand [Me2Si(η5-C5H4)2]2⊖ is metal-bridging in the nearly symmetric title compound (right). This compound is formed YbCl3 and the sodium salt of the anion and forms red crystalline needles. In other lanthanoid(III) complexes, the group functions only as a chelating ligand.
