Visualization of Boundary Layer Flow Patterns around Proturberances Using an Optical-Surface Indicator Technique

Abstract

The shadowgraph or schlieren optical system is combined with the oil flow technique to obtain improved visualization of a turbulent boundary layer-shock-protuberance interaction. Simplicity and resolution are the main advantages. Two conjectured flow patterns are presented.
