Results are reviewed from a series of studies on the radiation biology of bacteria. Speres of Bacillus megaterium were grown under controlled conditions and the effects of radiation on survival were observed. Results are discussed. It is pointed out that the target theory as an aid in radiobiology is not so much the understanding of radiation damage as it is the understanding of the biological organism. (C.H.)
