Abstract

The aim of this paper is to discuss Roman coastal landscapes and sea-level forcing near Forum Julii (Fréjus, France). These new data demonstrate that the shoreline was a rocky coast with a biological mean sea level at −33 cm ± 6 cm N.G.F. This shoreline was buried by a sandy beach around 50 A.D. A core drilled near the Villepey pond attests to a marine environment during this period. For the first time, these data show a strong dissymmetry of the shoreline during the Roman period.
