Poly(alkylenedioxythiophene)s—new, very stable conducting polymers

Abstract

The stabililty of conducting polymerss is enhanced by the presence in the doped polymer structure of substituents which are able to stabilize prositive charge while having only minor steric effects. The insufficient stability of conducting poplymers has greatly hindered their wide application but the title compounds have recently been shown to fullfil the above requirements and their synthesis, properties, and potential applications are described.
