A Simplified Simplification of Carathéodory's Treatment of Thermodynamics

Abstract

The generality of Carthéodory's treatment can be retained if one considers a composite system whose state is defined by only three variables. Carathéodory's axiomatic approach is rendered less abstract by discussing a specific system, and by supplementing a purely analytic treatment with appropriate diagrams.
