Abstract

Reportsreplacement of the V-P shunt or externalization of the peritoneal component [3, 6].Resolution of the abscess without any therapeutic aspiration has been reported [6, 10].Aspiration of the fluid collection in our case was both diagnostic and therapeutic.Complete externalization of the shunt was mandated because of persistent shunt infection and subsequent meningitis. While hepatic abscess remains a rare abdominal complication of V-P shunts, awareness of such a complication will help in establishing an accurate diagnosis and instituting appropriate therapy.
