Uranium carbide (UC), thorium carbide (ThC) and UC-ThC solid solutions exhibit temperature variations of specific heat in the helium temperature range which are characteristic of metals. The form of the common rigid energy band of UC and UC-ThC mixed carbides has been deduced between the Fermi limits of UC and of UC-15% ThC.
