Prevention of Infection in Critically Ill Patients by Selective Decontamination of the Digestive Tract

Abstract

Selective decontamination of the digestive tract decreases subsequent infection rates, especially by gram-negative bacilli, in selected patients during long-term stays in the intensive care unit.
