The explanation of 1/f noise with the help of models of self-organised criticality makes use of combining scaling and the distributed time-constant picture. Limits of applicability of this type of arguments are presented. The numerical study of the two-dimensional model of Bak, Tang and Wiesenfeld (1987) shows that although non-trivial scaling is present, the power spectrum of the total process has a approximately 1/f2 behaviour.
