Abstract

Pulsed light excitation of [CuI(TMPA)(CO)]+ in organic solvents at room-temperature results in rapid, k > 108 s-1, release of carbon monoxide to yield the solvento complex, [CuI(TMPA)(S)]+. The dynamics of this process and the subsequent rebinding of CO were quantified by time-resolved UV−vis and IR spectroscopies. This report represents the first examples of CO photodissociation from copper coordination compounds and an unusual reactivity of metal-to-ligand charge-transfer excited states.
