Familial Glaucoma Associated With Elevated Episcleral Venous Pressure

Abstract

Glaucoma associated with idiopathic elevation of episcleral venous pressure was found in two members of a family. The propositus was affected unilaterally with large episcleral veins, significantly elevated episcleral venous pressure, elevated intraocular pressure, cupping of the disc, an open angle with blood in Schlemm's canal, and glaucomatous field loss. The patient's mother had a similar picture in both eyes. Significantly elevated mean episcleral venous pressure has not been found in studies of eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma. Neither case was found to have any of the entities known to produce elevated episcleral venous pressure.
