Intravenous drip infusion of PGE1 in man induced a marked increase of GH secretion. Stimulation of HGH secretion by PGE1 administration is possibly explained by the assumption of a direct or indirect action of PGE1 on the anterior pituitary increasing cyclic AMP, consequently releasing HGH. Intravenous infusion of PGE1 appears to be useful as a method of testing the secretory activity of GH.
