Abstract The main focus of this research is the study of the ultraviolet protection factor of woven fabrics made with three types of cellulosic fibres, and with some pre-established manufacturing variables. The composition and structure of the studied fabrics make them appropriate for use in summer garments. The differences in the degree of protection in relation to the type of fibres and the structural parameters of the fabric are analysed by the determination of the ultraviolet diffuse transmittance spectra of each fabric and the calculation of the corresponding values of the ultraviolet protection factor.
