Pancreatic Amylase Secretion by Young Calves

Pancreatic juice samples, collected from male dairy calves fitted with pancreatic duct eannulae, were analyzed for amylase. In one experiment calves were fed milk or milk replacer, hay and calf starter to eight weeks of age, then hay and calf starter. Samples were collected at different intervals after feeding, at various times during day and night, and at various ages to 163 days. In another experiment, the effect of protein source was studied in calves to 21 days of age.
