The concept of using chemicals for economic control of nitrification in soils, and the implications thereof, has been previously discussed (2). Certain properties of a chemical, 2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl)pyridine2, potentially suitable for this use were described. The purpose of this paper is to present laboratory and greenhouse studies on the control of nitrification of various fertilizers in soils by this chemical.
