A study of psychiatric clinics for children in New York revealed that public and private facilities drew their patients from different socioeconomic groups. Furthermore, the investigation reveals a picture of two relatively different patterns of service differentiated according to the patients' socioeconomic status. Questions are raised concerning the relation of these clinics to the total pattern of community health services.
