An octathymidylate derivative carrying an EDTA residue at its 5'‐terminus was synthesized. In the presence of Fe 2+ , O 2 and dithiotreitol, this derivative cleaves poly(dA) and poly(A) more efficiently than the non‐complementary polynucleotide poly(dT).
