Distribution of Absorbed Power in a Side-Pumped Ruby Rod

Abstract

Expressions are derived for the total energy density of the pumping light in the interior of a ruby rod and for the rate of photon absorption from the pumping light when the polychromatic nature of the pumping light is taken into account. The expressions are evaluated numerically.
