Decisive importance of the viscoelastic properties of polymers in their laser damage mechanism

Abstract

An investigation was made of laser damage to polymethylmethacrylate (organic glass) on repeated and single exposure to nanosecond radiation pulses. A correlation was established between the optical strength of transparent polymers and their viscoelastic properties, in particular, the induced elastic limit.
