Abstract

This article discusses the cyclone performance using dust-laden combustible gas generated by the process of gasification. Unlike a conventional gas separation application, the input gas stream to the cyclone is hot and contains particulate matter in a wide range of sizes. In this study, two cyclone designs and their performances using theoretical and computational fluid dynamic models, supported by experimental work, have been discussed. The challenges faced with respect to measurement of particle size distribution and the particle shape have been identified and their effects on the cyclone performance analyzed.
