Abstract

Abstract One step in the process of supporting the needs and demands of the business curriculum is the establishment of a balanced core collection of periodicals. Due to the nature of business research, a core collection must be balanced among the business disciplines and between scholarly and non-scholarly materials. Using a combination of two techniques-correlation of business indexes and databases, and citation analysis-a core of 283 periodical titles was determined. Databases and indexes compared with ABI/INFORM, Business Index, Business Periodicals Index and F & S Index United States. The SSCI Journal Citation Reports was used in the citation analysis portion of the project. The study also showed that the Business Index includes the highest percentage of core titles but that the Business Periodicals Index most closely adheres to the core. Using this core list as a foundation, the specialist can further develop a collection to meet specific curricular or research needs.
